Uh. . .actually "give it to him" could go either way. I hope it doesn't. Duck fast Paolo! "Do not meddle in the affairs of Dragons, for you are crunchy and good with ketchup." |

I laughed about the "mothership" and "cosmic time".It sounds like Paolo's been hitting the peace pipe pretty hard these days

Laura...I still have the yurt for a week...and also festival sponsored camping spaces close to the festival...
I may leave early and hot spring/swim in nearby lake at yurt location ...and again on the way back... I have comfy camping equipment for K@ but she said she didn't like ground camping so the yurt has beds if she needs it.... and of course the yurt has a parking space big enough for a tour bus pulling an equipment trailer...or a Mothership to land...LOL! |

OMG! I just found out that Ricky Skaggs (great singer and guitar, fiddle, mandolin , and banjo player...) and Bruce Hornsby, with the Kentucky Thunder are going to be playing just after Paolo!!! Oh, I think Paolo should stay and watch these guys... They're great!!! If he has aspirations of getting into country more, he should see them. Skaggs is one great mandolin player...it'd be cool if Paolo could play with him!!! Wow! I almost want to cry that I can't be there... All of this in one night under a full moon, in the mountains!!! Paolo... Ricky Skaggs ... Bruce Hornsby (fabulously playing that wonderful piano, and most likely singing Mandolin Rain...) ...and Kentucky Thunder, great instrumentalists! What a dream.
Skaggs is a musical genius, teaching himself to play the mandolin at age 5!!! Too much about him to try to tell here. He's got a classical country sound, not like a lot of the glossier country singers of today... My maternal grandfather played fiddle and banjo... sadly I didn't get to know him... he died before I was born. He was one of those Tennessee mountain fiddle and banjo players that was self taught... well, family tradition doesn't know exactly how he learned... Roy Acuff, of Grand Ole Opry fame, was raised nearby in the same town of Maynardville. Acuff's family was neighbor to my grandfather's great uncle. This great uncle was also writing a book on vocal music. So they had a common love of music, and they lived right next door to one another. I like to imagine that maybe my grandfather got some exposure to Acuff's family... The Acuffs were known for their fiddle playing.... Hey, you never know.... But because I was deprived of knowing my grandfather (papaw), and hearing him play, I've always been very drawn to mountain music, especially fiddle and banjo. So I'd like to be there in Telluride in the worst way!!! Paolo AND great traditional mountain music!!! Back to back. (My grandmother also played the Jew's Harp/Juice Harp and Spoons, music was a great part of their life...). I don't know if they're going to be playing on the same stage or not... The line-up just shows that Skaggs is due onstage at 8:00 pm, a half hour after Paolo finishes. My thought would be that they would both be on the main stage. If so, that would make it convenient for Paolo to stay and take in the show. I wonder if he'll just finish up and go meet y'all fans??? Or stay... Would be interesting to know. I haven't been to many concerts, and to only one festival nearby. Don't really know how things work... Paolo, if you're going country, I'll love that! But I'll miss your hard rocking "Jenny Don't Be Hasty" style of performing like in Brussells 2007, too. I'm putting in an order for you to keep doing both!!! Pleeese... Still in my prayers, as always... Peace and love... Enjoy that full moon in Telluride!!! The great sense of passing through... |

I hope that the yurt has enough space for both the tour bus and the mothership... Maybe only Paolo has the honor of arriving via UFO style... The great sense of passing through... |

OneW....yes the line-up is fantastic and that is only one nite! And everyone wonders why Paolo has not cancelled...LOL...how could he not take a LITTLE time off to relax...he deserves it...hasn't he been recording on and off for 6 months?
I'm sure he will stay around to observe the musicians(and maybe join them on stage!)...he did watch the other musicians on the bill at Denver last year.... And after-all, K@ and I aren't THAT facinating!...LOL... Though we both CAN sing and have volunteered to be back-up singers anytime they are ready to add more band members! And at the rate Paolo is adding new band members... anything is possible...hee,hee! Yes OneW...it is very sad you didn't get to meet/enjoy your PaPaw and his music... My uncle was a famous champion fiddle player here in the Southwest and my dad played trumpet in Big Bands(both have passed-away)...and so I grew-up with great music around me...and I have a great appreciation of many kinds of music... Famous crooners (Don't laugh!)Dixieland Jazz,Delta Blues singers.. I was exposed to them at a young age by my dad's record collection... My personal collection started early too! One of my most coveted posessions, as a 5 year old, was a large set of classical/operatic records I found while playing in the dirt in a vacant lot...I had a box type record player that came with "I'm A Little Teapot"type records and I enjoyed playing both, though my mom hated the Opera music and would tell me to turn it down or off...LOL! Then growing up in Berkeley/San Francisco California during the 60's I was lucky enough to be the right age for the British Invasion,Rock, Acid rock, Psychedelic rock,Woody Guthrie to Bob Dylan folksinging, etc.and I took every advantage to see/hear most of the greats whenever I could...tickets and transportation were cheap...even in those days... Now the cost of concerts and the distance between them makes it hard to introduce great LIVE music to the newer generations...so sad! Music brings me great Joy in my life! |

hey who will go to the telluride ???

Kimpy, Yes , I have thoughts at the back of my head as to why I think Paolo didn't cancel this particular concert... He so deserves some fun and relaxation... Also, it could be great inspiration...I think Telluride can provide that for sure, at least I hope so. There's also a wine festival in Telluride June 26-29 if he can stick around for a little vacation and would be interested... Don't know if he's still hankerin' for a vinyard or not... That would be cool if you and Kat could be back-up singers for him!!! So fun to dream a little dream... I know Arlo Guthrie is in the lineup for the day before Paolo... I'd like to see him !!! You were so lucky to have your dad and uncle around! I'm sure you got to go to their performances and hear them play around home... I would have loved to be around that environment! Now don't think I'm too nuts... but I think all gifted artists are gifts from God... Sometimes they screw up their lives, but at least they were able to bring a whole lot of people needed pleasure for awhile... And they leave behind a beautiful legacy. Always wishing them the best... My musical tastes run the gamut, as well. I think it all started when my aunt, who was taking care of me while my mother worked during the day ( I was an infant in a crib, mind you...) would put a radio on around me all of the time to keep me satisfied... which must have worked ... And as I was growing up, I almost always had one of those little transister radios attached to my wrist or hand. I even lugged my record player and records to friends houses, sharing the fun... Country, pop, rock, you name it. Even classical... I think I influenced my nephew (who btw has the same birthday as Paolo, Jan. 9) to love classical music, starting from when he was an infant. He was fidgity a lot, and I'd take him to my room, lay him down and put Beethoven on the stereo. He loved it! He's always loved classical to this day! It's his music of choice. He plays in a city band now, just for fun. And he's a very gifted mathematician, among other things. He also likes "Weird Al" Yankovic, as I do, too. He's funny... I like the big band sound, as well. Got that from my mom. And I wouldn't laugh at you concerning crooners, either, contemporary and older style. Nat King Cole's "Unforgettable" still gives me chills. Love the sax in the version with his daughter. Sinatra was great, too. Loved his old movies where he would break into song... Watched a lot of old musicals with my mom, which she loved. I hated school, and at times would stay home and watch old movies with her during the day... I would have been in heaven to have gone to all of those great 60's concerts!!! I loved the music very much... But I wouldn't have fit into the drug culture prevalent then. Never been into drugs at all. But they've been around me in various ways... I've seen their destruction... The music alone is my drug. If I could have been around opera more, I think I would have enjoyed it. But only in English 'cause that's all I understand!... Music can be a powerful thing, that's for sure. I'd have liked to have gone to see Bret Dennen there at Telluride, too. His song "Ain't No Reason" touches me deeply. Political song. I like the verses: "Love will come set me free, I know it will" and "Love I try to follow." Sound simple but deep meaning... Like his delivery! Not too many days left for you until the big day... "Paradise is on its way!!!" and "There are miles and miles of pleasures to be had." Now who do we know that has said that before??? The great sense of passing through... |
