Hey OWT,
I hope everything is okay. We've had some terrible weather, too. Good luck!

I'm glad you're ok. I hope the damage is not severe. We've just had the worst weather lately. Southern Wisconsin is an absolute mess. Seems were getting a bit of a break now though. I hope you can get the damage repaired soon. Good luck with it all. Smiler

K@...I hope you can go...
I just pulled this off of the Telluride Planet Bluegrass site:

"Paolo walks on-stage at the MOMENT OF SOLSTICE on Friday night. He's part of a day of music that includes Tim O'Brien, Béla Fleck, Peter Rowan, Ricky Skaggs, Bruce Hornsby, and of course, Leftover Salmon. And that's just on the main stage..."

You HAVE to find some way of getting off of work early!...do I detect a sudden illness coming on?....

Thank you to everyone for showing your concern... Smiler Appreciate it very much.

Some are saying it was a tornado, others just an unusually strong wind gust... I believe it was a tornado!!! It got eerily dark, then suddenly out of nowhere, with no warning, this massive destructive wind blew up and tree branches began to fall wildly on my roof. I thought that was going to be the end of the house and me. Frowner Went into prayer mode... Was over in seconds... I have four trees up close around the house, so I've always worried about something like this happening.

I've lived in this house for almost 38 years, and in this neighborhood for close to 50 years. Never has anything this destructive happened here to my knowledge. It was so quick and powerful... Branches of every size were thrown all around... We were lucky with the tree that came down on the house. Husband investigated and no real damage! Smiler He's going to take his chain saw to it... Decided not to make a claim to the insurance company. Some neighbors were not so lucky... Frowner

Yes, the weather all around has been quite unusual... that's for sure. I hope we all make it through this summer without too much of a problem. Smiler

Maybe it was a microburst.

If I were you, I'd check the roof carefully. We had a similar problem years ago and part of the tree hit the roof before it slid down the side of the house and crashed through a window. A piece that hit the roof punctured a whole in it and got stuck. Initially, from our point of view on the ground, it just looked like it was sitting up there.

Sounds like you know all to well what might be going on...

I've been trying to get him to go up in the attic with a flashlight, as we had planned... but since he got home and took a look at it, he's convinced that it's going to be okay. I've learned not to argue with him too much when he gets so sure of himself. Roll Eyes He'll find out soon enough if he was right... Hope he doesn't have to kick himself...

Sister had a similar situation to yours, so I was concerned about the same thing... she did end up having a hole in her roof and had to have it partially re-shingled. From the ground you really couldn't tell if the shingles were just disturbed, or worse... But, hubby rules in this department, and I'll just have to go with it... Wink

I'll have to look up what a microburst is... got my ideas, but would like to see how they present themselves. I didn't hear the proverbial raging train sound that they say goes with a tornado... so who knows... Confused

Well, I hate to say it but we went up in the attic too and couldn't tell very well either, but then it's really hard to walk around up there for fear of putting your foot through the second floor ceiling. I think we didn't know for absolute sure until someone actually went up on the roof (which in my opinion is easier than trying to walk in the attic). The tree branch that made the hole also plugged the hole pretty well, but still you don't want bugs crawling into your house.

We've had a lot of rain off and on and no water has come into the house that I've seen... Smiler the tree is pretty much supported, too... A good portion of the root system is pulled from the ground but it's all connected (the canopy, trunk and root system)keeping some of the weight off of the house. Maybe the impact to the roof wasn't as bad as it could have been because of this??? It looks like it just leaned over onto the house and the canopy is covering half of the roof...

We have a VERY STEEP angle to our roof... the house is two story, as well... So husband is kind of dragging his feet while gathering the tools he's going to need. He wants to do it safely... He's going to have to harness himself to the roof, and use heavy duty rope and other aparatus to support removal of the bigger pieces of the trunk. He's had a good amount of experience cutting down large trees... so he's confident he can handle it... He's been having some trouble finding just what he needs, all the tools he needs are 200 miles away from us at his parents house... so he's trying to gather up some new stuff here.

I'm still worrying because branches were flying from all different directions... As I said before, we have four trees close around the house, and they all were ravaged to a degree... so there could be damage that he didn't see... But what am I to do when he's so adamant it's all okay??? I put my two cents worth in, but it is his department...

He's been cleaning up the yard and we have mountains of brush and logs out by the curb... city will remove... luckily... We got the least of it compared to our neighbors... and everyone is still waiting for their insurance adjusters to come out I think... no one is removing all of their downed trees... They're all still scattered about... It looks like a war zone to me... Frowner

Well, I'm going on again... Roll Eyes Thanks for the advice... Smiler
