Paolo's last blog at Bebo :

The 42nd Montreux Jazz Festival saw Paolo invited to play at the celebration of Quincy Jones' 75th Birthday to celebrate alongside some legendary names - Petula Clark, Mick Hucknall, Al Jarreau, Chaka Khan, Herbie Hancock and Patti Austin. Paolo performed the classic 'Going To Chicago' with Petula Clark, and a tune on his own - the Quincy-penned 'Strawberry Letter 23'. He nailed them both!

Click here: clicky... to check out pictures of the evening.

Quincy Jones joined all the artists and musicians on stage at the end of the concert to thank them all personally! He singled out Paolo for special praise saying "You're such a young man with an amazing future ahead of you." He also picked up on Paolo's Scottish roots too and was overjoyed at the nights amazing array of star singers - all for his 75th Birthday!

Montreux Founder, and Paolo fan, Claude Nobs said "Quincy is the biggest producer, composer and arranger of the 20th Century. Nobody can match the spectrum of music from African, Blues, Gospel, Brazil - we had to go into the vaults to get some of the old songs - from Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Billie Holiday - some of which haven't been played in 30 years!"

Quincy Jones is the biggest ever Grammy Award winner with grand total of 27 wins - Paolo was honoured to be there and the team also enjoyed Naturally 7, a New York city outfit that don't use any instruments - it's all voice and its ALL amazing! Chris,

Thank you for those wonderful pictures, and the great info. I'm so looking forward to one day seeing the video of Paolo's performance there at Montreux. The love Quincy sent Paolo's way must have been extremely meaningful for him. Cool

Big Grin Ahh yes,I need to tell you another Montreux-story....

The morning after the show I met two men at our hostel, type mid-age jazz lovers, and they were discussing the show mentioning "that young scottish singer with Italian name singing with Petula Clarke, wow,he was pretty awesome, what a voice !!! Don't remember his name...hmmm...ah yes, Franco Ambrosetti.."
Eeker That was exactly the moment I HAD TO interfere in their conversation lol...telling them the right name. Franco Ambrosetti is a white haired trumpet player who played Miles Davis "Sketches from Spain" last night... Razzer
So i told the guys that this young man is called Paolo Nutini and that we are here because of him, that he had an own show at Montreux the year before, and that he was part of the Ahmet Ertegun tribute show in 2006. They were pretty impressed about Paolo being invited to the Festival three times in a row, which is really an honour for a young artist and normally doesn't happen at Montreux.
The guys actually had never ever heard of Paolo before ! But they said there is a great future waiting for him and that his performance had blown them away. Big Grin

At least i took care of that now they know the right name to google him..... Wink
