I've been making requests to my local radio station (96.3 FM Detroit, Michigan) to play Paolo's songs and tonight I was told by one of the DJ's that they didn't even have his album!
Every DJ that I've talked to knew who he was: "Yeah, that Scottish guy..." was one response. The last DJ I talked to even knew he was going to be here in Michigan in June supporting Dave Matthew's Band. I told him that a lot of people love Paolo's music and they should get his album and play it. Especially since he's coming here soon. He asked if more than 4 people liked him...? Duh? I said definitely! He said that was their criteria and then said he was going to make a note of it and see what he could do. They liked to help up and coming artists. One of the other DJ's earlier said "Sure we have Paolo Nutini's stuff, we're a radio station..." Obviously he didn't know what he was talking about, but he knew Paolo, too. Said he "liked the dude." Oh well, I'm trying here in the Detroit, Michigan area to raise some awareness about Paolo. And I'm hoping others around here that might read this forum will do the same. I'm not one to do this kind of stuff, and I've been going through some tough times lately, but for some reason I've been focused on Paolo's music. He helps me take my mind off my troubles and has inspired me to take a little journey back in time to all the old music I grew up with, loved, and often times didn't really even know all of the lyrics to. When he's mentioned earlier artists he admires in interviews I often will not recognize the names, so I'll go to youtube.com to look them up. To my suprise, I loved them too, I just didn't know their names! Music has played a very big part in my life, it's been like a soothing drug, I just haven't always had a great memory for all of the different artists names...And I was mostly a country music type of person, since my family is from the Tennessee Smoky Mountain area originally. But I love all types of music. And for some years now I've been into Christion music and talk radio, so it's a wonder I even found Paolo! If he hadn't been on Jay Leno, September '07, singing that beautiful song "Last Request," I probably would have never heard of him at all. And he seemed so nervous and uncomfortable my heart went out to him. I wanted to help him feel better somehow. I wanted to know about him, he seemed like a gentle soul that night. But now it appears he's not as helpless as I thought he might be... I don't really know him at all, really, just what I've read and seen of him at a distance. But he's still finding himself, too. Anyway, for some reason I feel the need to help him out as I can, and I'll be doing my part here in Michigan. It amuses me that a twenty-one-year-old can open my eyes to the past and lift my spirts at the same time. So I guess he's a kinda Spirit Lifter for me at the moment This message has been edited. Music can do in 30 minutes what therapists take 30 years doing.
Glad to hear your making all the right noises to the media, with a voice that belies his youth Paolo has the voice of the 21st century, if we think its good now, wait till he's grown into himself a little more. Its just going to get better and better Bring back The Humpff Family |

Paula, I know exactly what you're saying... Music does have a way with the mind... It can speak for you what you can't speak for yourself. No matter what the mood is... Great therapy, for sure!
I do hope Paulo does well here in the U.S. ... So come on my fellow Americans, get on the Paolo bandwagon! And start requesting his songs at your local radio stations...Let them all know just how wonderful he is! By the way, Paula, interested in just where Cumbersneckington is located? Scotland?... Hey there oneworldt, I live in WIndsor across from you. On one of the stations The River they occasionally play Paolo although I have NEVER heard him but my husband has. (93.9 fm)I think it is a joint Canadian and U.S station. they were the ones that sponsored Paolo when he came last fall to St. Andrews Hall. Did you go to this gig?? I have requested another of the Windsor stations play Paolo too but I haven't heard him yet. My husband actually taught the one guy math in highschool but he still said "I'll see what I can do!" |

Hi paolocrush, I'm not quite living in Detroit, about 30 miles north of there...I've been to Windsor several times in my life, beautiful over on that side of the river...never been to the downtown area, we always were going over to see the Canadion countryside. Now, since they've started that passport rule, probably won't be going over again anytime soon. Sad to say...It's around a hundred dollars for a passport for each individual going! What a shame, but I understand why they feel they have to do it now, with all of the threats today. I haven't seen Paolo in a gig anywhere I just found out about him in September '07. Don't know when the St. Andrew's gig was in the fall??? Anyway, don't have a lot of spare cash for entertainment at the moment (or even last year). I wasn't even going to be able to go see him this June at the Clarkston show. But I still wanted to promote him by encouraging the radio stations to play his music. So sad that he's not going to be able to make it. But that album is much more important to produce than anything! I was wondering what material he was going to play, since the new album wasn't released yet. Figured he'd play the older stuff and maybe tease with some of the new??? No idea, really...The economic climate here isn't the greatest, a lot of people are out of work with the lay-offs. Too many companies going overseas...Sad state of affairs. I don't know exactly how badly this is affecting the local entertainment industry; but I believe it would have some impact. And gas prices are nearing $4 a gallon! So a lot of people are opting to stay home. I found the station (93.9 FM) you referred to. It's not a very strong signal, at least tonight, anyway... I'll give them a call when I can. Looking for more stations to pounce on We all need to let our voices be heard concerning Paolo! The great sense of passing through... |

Howdy Rachell, Funny, I was born in Knoxville, and have been living here in Michigan since my first b-day...Won't say just how long ago that was... I think Franklin is somewhere near Chatanooga? Not sure...Love the Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village in Dearborn Heights, I'd guess you visited it at some point when you were living there. I also love the Ambassadore Bridge between Detroit and Windsor. It really does look so beautiful all lit up at night They're supposedly going to build another one, last I heard. We all need to be outspoken when it comes to our Paolo Hope you're having nice weather down there in the Volunteer State! The great sense of passing through... |

Franklin is about 15 minutes south of Nashville. The main attractions here are country music stars and the Civil war.I lived in Michigan until I was 12, and I've spent the last 12 years in TN.I most of my family is still in MI and I miss it.Sometimes

I'd choose Tennessee over Michigan anyday! Michigan has a lot of great aspects to it, but most of my family ties are in East Tennessee. And if I lived there, it would have to be in the mountains because that is what draws me to it beyond all of my family that lives there. Must be nice being so close to Nashville! That is if you are a country music fan, as I am. Hopefully you'll be able to come up to see your family here in Michigan sometime. Hard to be separated from them, I'm sure.
