Thanks to those of you on the forum who posted about this Paolo cover elsewhere, but I think it deserves its own topic!

Wow – this is one of my favorite songs in the world. Actually not by Arthur Lee, but Bryan MacLean. Waiting for a better video, but here’s what’s up so far on YouTube.

Paolo switched the lyrics around, but it was originally written like this:

Alone Again Or

Yeah
Said that's alright
I won't forget
All the times I've waited patiently for you
And you'll do just what you choose to do
And I will be alone again tonight my dear

Yeah
I heard a funny thing
Somebody said to me
You know that I could be in love with almost everyone
I think that people are the greatest fun
And I will be alone again tonight my dear

Paolo’s covers never cease to amaze me – I mean obviously this is a natural choice and perfect for the Vipers with its gorgeous guitar for Donny and Dave, and the trumpet for Gavin. Such simple, tragic lyrics. This is a famous song that's been analyzed to death so I won’t add any more, but one of the other great versions was by the Damned about 20 years ago.

Just having this on the live album will make it worth it!

Please, if anyone gets a better recording, post a link or MP3, thanks!

Hi mabingham,

It was Hammersmith, Apollo (London), according to the credits at the end of the video. 09/30/09. Smiler

I'm really loving it. Cool

I always love hearing from you here on the forum, Won't be Hasty. Smiler

I agree wholeheartedly that this is a great song for both Paolo and the Vipers. The guitar parts are great, as you say. And the brass section is to die for. I loved it without reservation upon first listen. I look forward to hearing it in every set he does now. He's done it softer, and more forceful. I think I prefer the bit stronger version, but either way, I love it. Hope he keeps doing it for awhile yet. Cool

On friday night in my home I looked out the original vinyl of this song and played it to Michelle, Jacq & Alicia. The looks on their faces was priceless. I didnt tell them I had the original version, just played it Smiler

Its an excellent song!!

Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body,
but rather to skid in sideways, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming WOW What a Ride!
