I've been thinking about just what Paolo was trying to say in his "White Lies" song?
Anyone have an interpretation? I'm thinking it might have something to do with an individual who loves someone very much, but tends to get distracted, and possibly becomes unfaithful (in reality or just mental lust?)... The individual doesn't like this aspect of himself, and wants to go with the one he loves to some safe little world and "hide" where the temptation can't reach him because he so wants to be faithful and dependable... it's just so hard to do??? I have other thoughts, but this is just one idea... Thought someone else might be able to give their opinion and maybe we could figure it out? The great sense of passing through... |

Thanks for responding, Bella. Maybe everyone already understands them all... and I'm just lame... I wish Paolo would discuss the meaninings of all of his songs... I know some artists want their audience to interpret them as they will...but me, I like to know what was on THEIR mind... I can also have my own personal interpretation, as well. Gets frustrating to me when I am drawn to a song in many ways, but still can't completely understand it. Who better to set everyone straight than Paolo! Also would like him to give his personal approval to all of the lyrics to his songs, that would mean a lot to me, too. Thank again for putting your two cents worth in! Hey OneWorld...
I have thought about this many times before and in my opinon this is his most difficult song to interpret I think what you said sounds pretty spot on but here are my thoughts I think it is about losing someone due to something you yourself could have controlled (such as cheating or lieing) I dont think that it is neccessarily about telling white lies but I think that white lies are a metaphor for those bad things you did that you could have controlled??? (That might not have made any sense haha) I think it is about ruining relationships more in a general sense and then the regret you feel after the relationship has ended because you know you could have saved it if you had controlled yourself and done things differently. In the lsat line it says... and I know that life's design moves around white lies, white lies, white lies, white lies I think he is basically saying that you can control how your life is going to turn out. We all make decisions everyday that shape the way our lives turn out and those decisions can either make your life better or worse. I could be completely completely wrong but thats my thoughts... Peace and BIG Love to all "Cause the world ahead will end if we don't have love" |

Hi CRock, Thanks for your input. The "white lies" Paolo refers to here is one of my biggest puzzles. I would like his take on just what white lies are to him... To me, white lies refers to insignificant little lies that couldn't really hurt one in any big way if the truth did come out to the other person. If my husband ran around on me and kept it his secret... that would be one big BLACK lie to me... I'm still contemplating your interpretation as I can... It has been very busy around here of late, and husband has just come home from being away for several weeks. He's been quite the Chatty Cathy! I think it has to have something to do with infidelity: "I will roam, lost but never alone" Roaming= cheating? Lost= Guilt, condemnation in the spiritual realm? Never alone= another woman? Paolo please help us out, you alone know what you were trying to say. I really want to understand you... I think the song has a lot to say about conflict. Internal conflict, and conflict in our relationships. Conflict is quite prevalent in the world on many levels. Another question that I have is just what he means by "lo-fi lonely sighs." Is he referring to feeling lonely, even in his relationship, that is why the infidelity occurs??? And these "lo-fi" sighs are raw, deeply honest, desperate sighs of sadness, and despair? I have many more thoughts on it but no real time to think it through at the moment... I like to hear other interpretations. Your metaphor theory sounds intrigueing... need to think it through more. I wonder if Paolo thinks he really could have been in more control? (Well, we don't know if this song was actually mirroring his own life in any way... or do we? Maybe just a story...). He's always saying that his songs are simple, but I don't think that's always the case... Thanks again! The great sense of passing through... |
