I thaught id be kind and listen to the song and get the lyrics for you. Here is what I got although I must admit some of the words were abit hard to understand so it may not be 100% accurate:

I have returned to the northern skies,
where the summer had knocked out the clouds that class above,
Oh and I have returned to the somber greens of the days to early to come and to early to stay
And I have left a million stars and I now sound so lightly so clearly blue
And I have left the warmth of the sun and a million adventures long had begun
The great sence of passing through
the great sence of passing through
the great sence of passing through
Oh for once there was beauty here for me under these white northern skies
I felt the green was blacker and the blue was darker still
my routes are lieing deeper than I ever think they will again
heart ache and poetry under these northern skies
the great sence of passing through
the great sence of passing through
the great sence of passing through

Hi,

I suppose some of the lyrics are a bit different. Heres my interpretation.

I have returned to the northern skies,
where the summer had not touchedthe clouds that class above,
Oh and I have returned to the somber grace of the days too early to come and to hurry to stay
And I have left a million stars and a notionso lightly so clearly blue
And I have left the warmth of the sun and a million adventures long yet begun
The great sense of passing through
the great sense of passing through
the great sense of passing through
Oh for once there was beauty here for me under these white northern skies
I felt the green was blacker and the blue was darker still
my routes are lying deeper than I ever think they will again
heartache and poverty under these northern skies
the great sense of passing through
the great sense of passing through
the great sense of passing through[/QUOTE]

Cheers.

Mmmh, I thought he was singing about his Scottish ROOTS, not routes, did I misunderstand that?

Cheers

Plus I thought he was singing about "an ocean" rather than "a notion" ... so ... blue.... What do you think?

I agree - I just had a listen to the song, and it's definately 'ocean' and 'roots' that he's singing about...

yeah you guys are right. mine was an attempt to correct some of the mistakes from archie's interpretation. now with roots n ocean it should be fully correct.. probably the only right lyrics of the song on the internet. good job. xx

I'm new to the site, but .. I figured I'd give my lyrical input, if that's okay?

I have returned to the northern skies,
Where the summer had not touched
The clouds that pass above.
Oh, and I have returned to the somber grace
Of the days too early to come and too early to stay.
And I have left a million stars,
And an ocean so lightly, so clearly blue.
And I have left the warmth of the sun
And a million adventures not yet begun.
The great sense of passing through,
The great sense of passing through,
The great sense of passing through.
Oh, for once there was beauty here for me
Under these white, northern skies.
I felt the green was blacker
And the blue was darker still.
My roots are lying deeper than I ever think they will again.
Heartache and poverty under these northern skies.
The great sense of passing through,
The great sense of passing through,
The great sense of passing through.

That's my interpretation of it .. I don't know. *shrug*
