Thanks for posting this. For me this interview has made this whole topic - which for the most part I got tired of several days ago - worth it. I won't be watching the official video for the same reason I don't watch the official video for Last Request; there are much better live performances to choose from. The audience will ultimately decide. Hi Rainbows. Nice to have you here. Love to all |

Thanks for the interveiw Won't be Hasty, I enjoyed reading it, however it was done in April long before any PFOL video - Has any one found any "stuffage" ( a paula word- which i love) that is directly about this "zombie thread" of a video??

I have to apologize that I seem to not get on this site often enough.
It's only a video. My favorite thing I read was something from Molly (I think) about another scenario where Michelle's husband is chasing Donny. You know I'll be thinking about that all day!!!! Nothing can compare to the live shows - especially that one clip...you know which one! |

Yes, Won't be Hasty, thank you for the interview link (and for your welcome)! One of the most insightful interviews yet. Even I, an outsider, got really sick of the unending inane questions about the chip shop. For pete's sake, everybody's dad has a line. Can you imagine the possibilities: “So, your dad is a lawyer, have you ever sung in court?” or “Your father owns a car repair shop – what kind of motor oil do you recommend?” I had read somewhere else of Paolo's disenchantment with the politics of the music industry, and the compromises he has to make, but this is frustration is particularly evident here. Hopefully the success of his “embarrassing” second album, and the fact that most of his gigs are selling out, has since placed him in a stronger position vis-a-vis the label, although he did complain recently about his latest US tour being under-supported. Hello AuntyLynnex and Greenstarlight, enchanté! Lynn, wow, you flatter me! I'm sure you can express yourself just as eloquently as anyone else … you just need to be sufficiently on fire! “Be still when you have nothing to say; when genuine passion moves you, say what you've got to say, and say it hot.” (D.H. Lawrence) |

Hi again Jelly! I agree that the robbery video was well made and it did have an interesting (if slightly predictable) twist at the end, although it was odd that someone would feel like singing in the middle of a bank heist! I prefer the second “Last Request” video, more along the lines I was trying to describe, i.e. evoking a mood rather than telling a story. It's so true that when we feel particularly sad, it seems like everyone else is having a ball! The hazy scene with the fire hydrant, I find particularly poetic. I guess I'm a big softy!!! “Be still when you have nothing to say; when genuine passion moves you, say what you've got to say, and say it hot.” (D.H. Lawrence) |

I agree that the second Last Request video was much more evocative of the mood of the song. I like it a lot. But I think my favorite is the first one. not for the mood or portrayal of the song, but for the extraordinary camera work and editing. Occupational hazard, I suppose. |

Def Leppard have been answering those inane questions for about 30 years now. Longer than Paolo's been alive. They got really irritated with it at first, too, answering the same questions over and OVER again, in twenty languages with idiot translators that didn't even say what they answered. But the Def Leppard guys learned two things a LONG time ago. First, that it goes with the territory. Second, that they were lucky to be in the position of getting asked those inane questions at all. There are hundreds, if not thousands of up-and-coming musicians that would LOVE to take their place. So they learned to roll with it. For example: "I just love your South Yorkshire accents!" ~ "Funny, isn't it, since we're all Norweigian." (They are indeed from South Yorkshire.) The point is that they've developed a sense of humor abut it rather than bother themselves being upset about it. The process isn't going to change, so they changed how they look at it. I hope Paolo finds a comfortable way to deal with all of that, too. |

Jelly, I agree. Also add to the "Chip shop" the observations about Paolo's good looks. This appears to embrass him. Even if you think he is drop dead gorgeous, would leave your husband/boyfriend for him and that you LOVE HIM, please keep it on the down low, or tell him when you are alone together and NOT DURING A CONCERT! During the final 4 USA gigs we had to hear these statements over and over and he would just pause slightly, then continue. He is there for the music and so are we. Cat
P.S. If you do get to tell him in private, please let us know ALL the details. catscompany@peoplepc.com |
