There was an Irish badminton player... but can't make a connection to Snake Derrick??? Confused

Frank Devlin (January 19 1900, Dublin - October 27 1988) was an Irish male badminton player. Devlin is the second most successful player ever in the All England Open Badminton Championships with 18 titles between 1925 and 1931, including three triple championships in 1926, 1927 and 1929. He also won four Irish Championships. Frank Devlin was right handed player, and was included in the Badminton Hall of Fame in 1997, together with his daugther Judy Devlin.

Did he want people to use the ukeleles as badminton rackets?? lol "Smash it up!"

Also, a writer named Frank Devlin...

This certainly is a mystery... Confused

It was a great gig! In the t break tent which is for up and coming bands and really small compared to the other stages! So really small and intimate gig which was good!

They played alloway grove, funky cigarette and new shoes and all the others were new ones. The band was the same as usual with three additions, a guy on acoustic, trumpet player and a guy playing mouth organ!

Thanks for the report! Must have been great to see them in that type of setting. Smiler Did they give out a lot of ukuleles? I was wondering if the t-shirts had the Snake Derrick and the Vipers picture/drawing on them? That is if you saw one... Maybe they'll offer some for sale...

Glad you enjoyed the show... wish I could have been there... Smiler

Hmmmm. . . . .Isn't Jan. 19 Paolo's birthday? The last venue gig on the last tour was on Oct. 27, 2007.

Fun trying to figure this all out... Smiler Paolo's B-Day is January 9, 1987. I remember this because it's also the birthday of my first, and very special nephew. Smiler

87?
That means I've got two children older than our Paolo.

There's the slap in the face I've been waiting for from reality.

Snake Derrick were for one night only, I dont think we will hear from that fly by night band again hahahahaha...

Paolo Nutini: I almost pulled out of secret T gig

Jul 14 2008 John Dingwall Beverley Lyons Laura Sutherland

PAOLO Nutini admits his unannounced gig in the packed T Break tent was a ruse to get himself on the T in the Park bill.

He played a mix of new and old songs, as well as a Johnny Cash cover, billed as Snake Derrick & The Vipers - a name inspired by a computer game.

Speaking exclusively to the Razz backstage, Paolo also revealed he almost pulled the gig because he was worried about upstaging fellow Scots Biffy Clyro, who were performing on the main stage at the same time.

The Paisley star said: "I was looking at the T in the Park line up a few weeks back and thinking, 'how do I get on there?' The bill was already full so I thought about playing under the name Snake Derrick as a one-off.

"The name comes from a Pro Evolution Soccer game I love. He is a player I have up front and he always scores a lot of goals for me.

"I wasn't sure about whether to do the gig, though, because I didn't want to take away from what Biffy Clyro were doing on the main stage. I tried to keep it low key."

Paolo opened with Alloway and included a jazzed-up version of Funky Cigarette, a cover of Johnny Cash song I've Been Everywhere and a bluesy High Hopes.

Paolo's mum Linda was backstage to catch his act.

She said: "I was at T in the Park when Paolo played last year and had to see him play his new songs. I hardly ever get to see him so it's great to be here. I've been backstage but haven't seen anyone cool."

Later, Paolo went off to stay with pals for the weekend in the campsite, managing to mingle anonymously with the T in the Park crowd.

He joined pals and his girlfriend, childhood sweetheart Teri Brogan, to watch US act The Raconteurs.

He even asked to borrow a fellow reveller's lighter and was simply told "no problem, mate".

Hello everyone,

Long time, no blogWink

Have to agree the gig on Sat was fab, I've got a precious ukelele and also a set list as a grreat reminder from the day. I'll post up set later when I get home.

I didn't manage to get a tshirt thoFrowner and didn't even know if they were selling them at the stalls!

Got some fab pics too as I was at front just at the right of Paolo's mike, so if I get a chance I'll post them up too.

My sincerest apologies that it's taking me so long to post on a thread. Unfortunately real life has got in the way for so long nowWink

Jacq xx
