Happy 4th of July everyone!!! Big Grin

And thanks to Paula for being so kind as to wish us a Happy 4th!!! Cool

Maybe the rain will clear up for you before tonight, Rachel! Smiler

Several in my neighborhood began celebrating days ago, as usual!!! And my poor pooch has has been vibrating with fear in the evenings, and hiding under my computer desk quite a bit, poor baby! Frowner She's ten-years-old and has never gotten used to it!!! Confused

Paula - Thank you for the wonderful pictures. It's raining here in Portland (what else?) Isn't it sad that this holiday has to run about a week long and our animals are freaked for days. Oh well, it just makes me crank up Paolo's music louder. Neighbors who just had a baby LOVE Paolo, even the new Grandmother. Was so nice to find this in common.

I think they've been fighting the Revolution all over again here in my neighborhood today!!! It's 11:45 pm and I swear they're still firing cannons off out there!!! The house has shook, literally, and they even have been shooting off commercial grade fireworks!!! (Which are quite beautiful, actually... Cool). This has been going on for hours...

Pooch has been sedated... but it's still getting to her... My big bad Chow Mix is a cowering puppy... hope this ends soon!!!

All that stuff is illegal here in IL but they still manage to get those things over the border, despite the news coverage of all the police crackdowns at the Indiana border.

TODAY??? Only TODAY??? They start the revolution all over again a week before any independence is declared and they'll still be setting off those M80s well after Cornwallis surrenders to Washington again. Roll Eyes

It's all illegal here too, but tell that to the police... Even if they wanted to do something about it, they'd have to take on the whole city!!! They are way outnumbered!!!

At 1:30 am, all I hear now are occasional explosions off in the distance... Dog has come out and settled down a little... But in this neighborhood, when you least expect it, someone will come out and set another one off and wake everyone up... so just a matter of time! Eeker

And they will continue on for awhile after today, that's a guarantee!

It's still going on here.

What's funny is that everyone, (on the news), is talking how illegal it is here to set them off, but they SELL them.

When it comes to inforcing setting off the fireworks......
I live in what they call a Blue Neighborhood, full of Police, Sheriff, and firemen,.... How do you inforce, when it is them and their families setting it off....lolol

It was going off fairly late last night. I just turned on the fan and blocked it out....

Well the firework operatives here work with ninja-like precision. They wait until it's really quiet then BANG! and M80 goes off. Then some of that "poppity-pop-pop" stuff, then it's quiet while they reload, or look for matches or missing fingers or something. Then it starts all over and they add some bottle rockets to it. It goes on like this for about an hour. Then it gets quiet while they get everyone in the neighborhood to think that that's it when BANG! they start all over again. It's some new psychological guerilla firework warfare they've created.

Kat, now you know the IL cops are just confiscating all the fireworks coming in from Indiana and then taking them home for themselves. Wink They HAVE to. I mean how would it look for an IL cop to be caught crossing the border with illegal fireworks?

Thanks Paolocrush. Glad to be of service to you and others here at the giggle factory.

It's true though, many people felt they were still British citizens and believed that they should remain loyal to their king. So, they relocated to Canada to maintain their Britishness. Big Grin Although, don't ask me what their French neighbors thought of what they probably saw as more English moving in. Roll Eyes

In general, though, Canadians do seem to be polite and quiet and probably don't celebrate Canada Day by doing much more than politely wishing everyone they meet a Happy Canada Day.

I have to ask though, because I honestly have no idea, what exactly does Canada Day celebrate? Confused

(And YES I AM too lazy to Google it.) Razzer

Canada Day is Canada's birthday. We are our own country even though the Queen has something to do with it-but now only as a figure head. Like Australia. She has no real power anymore here. We don't do much fireworks around here-only the odd measly firecracker goes off in the p.m. Pathetic really.
