Also, I was out doing my route and thinking on our sweet Paolo and his style... And I personally came to a conclusion....You know how you can put most artists in a genre or two and sometimes three.... Well, I would say that Paolo has such an ecclectic style that he is his own genre..... just a thought...lol

Definitely a great thought! I usually try not to point out particular songs of his because I'm often not sure just where to place them in a genre! Smiler Sleepwalking seems Cajun-like to me??? I'm no expert at putting songs into categories... obviously... I just know what I like... and I like what Paolo has to offer!!! Big Grin

quote:
Oneworldt,...OMG... it's impossible to keep up with all of the interviews and articles there are of him now... I mean,... they've doubled since I first started researching him last year...lol

Tell me about it!!! Smiler I remember little things from what I've seen and read, then when I need to back it up, I can't remember just where I got it from... Confused There are soooo many... But then that's how we get to know our guy!!! Big Grin

quote:
Oh and I agree with you Oneworldt... I'm proud of him,... I think that he has nothing to be ashamed of.... Not every song has to be liked by everyone.... he just needs to make the music he likes... and that's the coolest thing of all.... It's his music....

Well said!!! Smiler

Wow, I take off for a weekend and miss all this activity.

First of all, I love the pictures Paula, and I'm so glad you got to go! Looks like it was a lot of fun.

I agree with Kat and OneWorldt - Paolo definitely can't be placed in one musical genre. I like that about him. No, I'm not a big fan of country music either, but I wouldn't call a lot of Paolo's new stuff country. It did surprise me initially because the new songs are quite different from These Streets, but I like them a lot. I'm curious to hear studio versions of the songs and see how they continue to change and develop them for the live shows.

Hi, let me get my two cents in here. I am not a fan of country either, but since Paolo did the Bluegrass Festival, that's opened my eyes to Bluegrass.

A little more from Paolo: Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin

Paolo Nutini: I almost pulled out of secret T gig
Jul 14 2008 John Dingwall Beverley Lyons Laura Sutherland

PAOLO Nutini admits his unannounced gig in the packed T Break tent was a ruse to get himself on the T in the Park bill.

He played a mix of new and old songs, as well as a Johnny Cash cover, billed as Snake Derrick & The Vipers - a name inspired by a computer game.

Speaking exclusively to the Razz backstage, Paolo also revealed he almost pulled the gig because he was worried about upstaging fellow Scots Biffy Clyro, who were performing on the main stage at the same time.

The Paisley star said: "I was looking at the T in the Park line up a few weeks back and thinking, 'how do I get on there?' The bill was already full so I thought about playing under the name Snake Derrick as a one-off.

"The name comes from a Pro Evolution Soccer game I love. He is a player I have up front and he always scores a lot of goals for me.

"I wasn't sure about whether to do the gig, though, because I didn't want to take away from what Biffy Clyro were doing on the main stage. I tried to keep it low key."

Paolo opened with Alloway and included a jazzed-up version of Funky Cigarette, a cover of Johnny Cash song I've Been Everywhere and a bluesy High Hopes.

Paolo's mum Linda was backstage to catch his act.

She said: "I was at T in the Park when Paolo played last year and had to see him play his new songs. I hardly ever get to see him so it's great to be here. I've been backstage but haven't seen anyone cool."

Later, Paolo went off to stay with pals for the weekend in the campsite, managing to mingle anonymously with the T in the Park crowd.

He joined pals and his girlfriend, childhood sweetheart Teri Brogan, to watch US act The Raconteurs.

He even asked to borrow a fellow reveller's lighter and was simply told "no problem, mate".

Wow! A cover of Johnny Cash's song "I've Been Everywhere!" I love that song!!! Big Grin Wish I could have heard Paolo do it! So appropriate for Paolo to sing! Smiler

Just thought I'd add a link to Cash's song for those who may not know it:

Wonder if Paolo's thinking of putting a cover of it on his new album? Smiler

My brain didn't get that far with the thought. It pretty much stayed on "AHHHHH! I LOVE that song!" A cover of it would be fabulous though! Big Grin

OK people...I've been a little slooooooow here, but until I read a review about about Snake Derrick, I didn't understand this whole T in the Park thing? I just GOT IT that they were billed as a different band.

Feel free to just sweep around me before you turn the lights off...

Geez!

LOL! I know. I could've sworn I saw Donny and Mick in some of those pics too. Maybe they never went backstage. Maybe they were on the stage when she got there and didn't leave the stage until, not having found any COOL people in that backstage area, left to look elsewhere. Wink
