I have learned that unless you seek things out here in the US and work it is often difficult...even with Triple A radio. Share your story....

I am super picky about music. Always looking for someone with a voice that melts.

Well it was my mission to get a Brill. myspace song. This was about 1yr and a half ago. I think I first stumbled on the Kooks page and Paolo was on their top friends list at the time. So I went to his page and I have been ruined ever since!

From the first note, I fell in love with that voice. And its been hard to find anyone that melts me like his voice does...

It was the Men at Work Cargo t-shirt that did it! I was a big Men at Work fan in the 80's - back when I was only 21. I still follow Colin Hay (lead singer) around, as he does some great solo stuff now. Anyway an online Men at Work friend sent me a link to Paolo's UK New Shoes video saying "check out this guy - he's wearing a Cargo t-shirt - see it's still cool!"

I watched the video, and thought "what fun!" Put it on the back burner, then heard Paolo on "Out of the Box" a NPR program showcasing new music. After that I searched You Tube for other music and found all his videos. I was hooked - that's great. It was later in March - that's bad - as I missed all the east coast shows Frowner
I knew that if I waited until next summer - his shows would be huge - ampitheater stuff, so I knew I had to see him somehow in a small venue. Once I heard about the Boston record store gig, I thought that was it - and flew up there to see him perform.
His live performance was amazing. He just has it all going on (but everyone who reads this forum knows that already!)

So now I have met him, have photos with him, and have tickets to V-Fest Aug 4th in Baltimore, and Chicago with AmyW. Sept 29th.

Yes, it's a great summer!

His songs are great, his voice amazing, and what I love about him is he can do a cover and the songs become his - he owns them, he delivers them from his heart and soul. No offense to the artists, but when I hear "Crazy" I think Gnarls who? No, no - that's Paolo's song...or my other favorite "Rehab" - no, no, not an Amy Winehouse song - that's Paolos!

Peace all...
Betsy

If you can believe this, I saw his name in the miscellaneous section of the James Blunt message board last June 2006. When I saw that he was touring America, I immediately looked up the gigs and let my hubby know about him. He saw him at SXSW, San Francisco, Bonnaroo. At Bonnaroo, hubby got to chat with him and was even offered some "grey goose". He actually remembered seeing my hubby at the San Francisco show. Great memory. We will be seeing him again in SF in Sept. and hubby will get to see him at Austin City Limits the weekend before. The first time I heard his music was at the San Francisco show earlier this year. After that, I noticed three of his songs play regularly on muzak at work.(muzak plays in all of our stores nationwide)

my friend had sent my last request june 06 i think, i thought paolo was an old american man who sang slow soul music. but i instantly fell in love with the song and paolo's voice, i searched around for other songs where i found autumn and i started crying when i listened to it! it reminded me so much about my experiences with my granpa and then these streets. a bout a month later the song was on the radio and it took me to realise where i had heard the song before and i remembered it was paolo! me and my friend would sing last request out loud lol (quite sad how we amuse oursleves lol) and then a few week after hearing ti on the radio i saw the music video and i wa slike 'woah ....he isnt and old man after all ...he i s....cute!' lol then after the summer i met him september 06 in hmv signing where i bought the albumn, and then the rest is history.. since then seen him play at brixton april 07. want to see him at more gigs when more dates are up, out of all the gigs i have been to paolo was my fave! yeah i fell in love wtth the music and paolo's voice before i actually saw hwat he looked like.

(first let me say that I would make the font smaller if I could figure that out as this is long)...

I have always bee n attracted to music from the UK and listen to Jo Whiley and other music on line. I also read British newspapers on line and saw a reference last summer to Paolo. Then I saw some things about ACL in September and heard the ep on Rhapsody. I was completely riveted by his voice (did not know what he looked like) The sound coming from those vocal chords left me breathless. I started reading and got the cd as an import. Then I started to look at the Atlantic site daily by mid fall convinced that he would eventually arrive on our shores. December 21st the tour wasup...got tix for Philly within 5 minutes then the local nightmare. This is a copy of an email I sent to a small Triple A station groveling for entry to their private show...I guess I have no pride .....

Hi Dawn!

I am writing as a follow up to our telephone conversation last Friday 1/19. As I told you at that time I have eagerly been awaiting for an announcement of North American tour to see this amazing artist. I purchased the cd several months ago from the UK and have downloaded all other recordings available. I have been blown away by his urgent, intense, passionate, soulful and gritty voice since discovering him last summer. I had emailed to his management firm in Glasgow, and was hooked up with Madison House in New York by the music booker@ WXPN in Philly as I frantically called and emailed people after being told by The Ram's Head that the listing on Pollstar and AtlanticRecords and the Offical Paolo Nutini website were ALL incorrect (and no he was not playing and they'd never heard of him). All of those people had no information! One day the listing disappeared. Knowing that the music business can be fluid I kept thinking that if I checked back regularly something would pop up. When I saw that The Ram's Head was once again on the Pollstar site Friday I went to cross-reference it on the Atlantic site and noted WRNR along with the artist name...more about the contest that I couldn't participate in due to weak signal from station and no listen live options.Crying and moaning.....

I simply cannot believe that of all the cities that Paolo is visiting this winter that the Washington/Baltimore area is the only one with this kind of gig. I am beseeching and imploring you to help me obtain a pair of tickets. If there is anyone else who I could email or speak with to plead my case please let me know. This really means a great deal to me.

It worked....but this is the funny thing. They changed their contest policy and allowed people to send emails requesting tickets...I asked my work colleagues to do this to broaden my chances. Seven people won and nobody but 2 could go. Ironic....I actually posted free tickets here the night before the show since some did not find out until that day.

I have been yammering on about PAOLO for almost a year and hardly a day goes by now when somebody doesn't come to me and say things about remember that singer you were pushing...I saw him on VH1 or I hear him on the radio....I TOLD YOU SO I say with a knowing smile

I applaud you for your efforts, and am glad the story had a happy ending!

I wish the local stations here (Norfolk, VA) would pay attention. I attended a festival here yesterday, and went up to 94.9 The Point a station one would think would be perfect for Paolo, and I mentioned "You guys really need to pick up on Paolo Nutini and play him"
The guys' reply to me: "Is he any good?"
In my mind I thought "No dude, he sucks - of course he's good!" but I was nice and just said "Paolo's fabulous, he's like nobody else out there!" Corporate radio BS continues...

So glad I found a thread about this Big Grin really fun to see how you guys got to know about Paolo.. I have my friend to thank. She played some song Paolo've made(thing it was jenny) and she said that she loved him. Didn't check him out at first because she played it from her cellphone and the sound wasn't very good and I couldn't hear enough to get me stuck (get what I mean?)... Then one day I sat trying to study on the computer but as always I got really restless. Paolo's name came up in my head and I started searching on youtube...Thought, woow he's actually good, then I couldn't help playing more and more songs. Well, what can I say...I found love, love for music that I have never felt before and never tought I would ever feel. So Amila if you ever read this, I can't thank you enough for telling me about Paolo, he've changed some things in my life that's for sure...

Good thread!

I first heard about Paolo because of my writing partner. A year and a half ago, she was working at a record store, so she heard everything under the sun. She made me listen to "Last Request" and I was completely blown away. Then, when I saw the video, I couldn't believe it.

I was working on rewriting Subjugation at the time. Like many authors, artists, and songrwiters, I often rely upon a muse when I work. Back when I first wrote Subjugation, many years ago, there was another musician that I looked at and listened to when I wrote the character of Nick. But, like the whole project at that point, the notion had become stale.
When I saw and heard Paolo, I found a new muse for Nick. A fresh face and a fresh optimism for the book. The lyrics to "Last Request" so appropriately fit the relationship between two of my characters at one point that I was thrilled when I got permission to use them.
I'd never in a million years wish upon anybody the things that happen to the characters in that book, but if they ever make a movie out of Subjugation, I hope they ask him to read for it.

Hi Jelly, I'm apparently following you around tonight.

I was asleep with the TV on. It was about 2 a.m. and I woke up to this voice and face singing Last Request. Didn't know who he was but hit the record button on the VCR. Made everyone I know listen to him and found him on YouTube. He was coming to Portland Oregon that week but was unable to see him (my great regret)
Music had died for me decades before. Great artists had self-destructed and music had changed. He just touches me. It's his sound but also who he is (from his inteviews) I'm probably his oldest fan, mid 60's, I am hopeful that his fans, family and friends will keep him grounded and protect him from the pitfalls of the business. He is very very special.

Hiya Cat!
In a cruel twist of fate, I discovered Paolo a week AFTER he was here playing a show in New Orleans. I look forward to seeing him in 2009.

I took some time to find him. Maybe I've already told this. I used to listen to Last Request on the radio and I wanted to know who sang it but couldn't find out. I wouldnt ever imagine it was someone my age. Last summer I saw that someone called Paolo Nutini was coming to TRL here in Florence and I said "who might be Paolo Nutini?" ...surely another one of those singers for teenagers! Until now I dont know if he really came to TRL (I hope not haha) but then on the day of his concert here in Milan, I found that he was the one who sang the song I loved. I couldnt go to his concert in Milan because I had a very important exam the day after but if he came to TRL I could have seen him Frowner instead I'm still waiting for this day
